MOMBASA revelers will be treated to a three day family oriented fun packed days as the famous contemporary Germany food and beer festival opens its doors at the spectacular Wild Waters amusement park in Mombasa later this month.
The first ever event to be held in East Africa will be of social impact to the East African states that includes Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan Ethiopia and Congo.
The carnival that is celebrated annually since October 17th, 1810, which was the wedding day of the future King Louis1 of Bavaria has since evolved into a showcase event for many commercial enterprises to display their products and innovations hence being held at the same time in many cities across the world.
With it’s first ever appearance in Mombasa aimed at raising over shs.1million towards the ongoing relief efforts in a bid to alleviate hunger in the worst affected regions in Kenya, the event is expected to be a major crowd puller for both the locals and foreign revelers.
According to the organizers of the Oktoberfest 2011African chapter, Marcel Hunziger, this is part of the way of assisting the less fortunate members of the society and part of the proceeds from the festival will be distributed to the Kenya Red Cross society among other local charitable organizations within Mombasa and Nairobi.
“This is one way of giving back to the society especially during these hard times when hunger pangs continue to claim lives of Kenyans especially in the North Eastern province.” said Michael Schaardt Michael.
The three day event will take place from 30th to 2nd October 2011in Mombasa while the Nairobi event is slated for 7th and 8th at the prestigious Windsor Golf club.
The three day event in Mombasa will see Eric Wainaina thrill the VIP’s on Friday night after which the revelers will be treated to fabulous music varieties by Dj Adrian throughout the night.
On Saturday, Eric Omondi will curtain raise starting 2pm after which Habida, Nameless and Jaguar spices up the rest of the evening.
In Nairobi the German based ‘Hootenanny’ will entertain the guests concurringly for the two days.
As a ritual, Sunday will bring together different churches who will host their services to give thanks to God and pray for the food and beer as it is done in Germany.
The festival is expected to promote the local tourism and it will also be streamed live to the original Oktoberfest in Munich and parallel events around Europe.
“This is where we will bring Mombasa to Germany and other parts of the world who will also be celebrating the Oktoberfest at the same time add Lisa Kibuta.
It is an intercultural event that will see Mombasa culture fuse together with the German to a tantalizing climax of fun.
Our primary goal as organizers and the sole importers of the popular German PAULANER BEER is to have a positive social impact in East Africa.
She said they had engaged major travel agencies and hotels in East Africa and Europe to sell their tickets and display our posters.
There will be a pre-event cocktail at the wild waters venue to issue prospective sponsors the opportunity to assess the venue and evaluate for themselves the envisaged atmosphere of the event and enable them to decide on the category of sponsorship that will give them the optimum value for their cash.
The Mombasa Coast Tourism Association (MCTA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) lauded the move as a one whole family package for the Mombasa residents and it would also attract local and foreign tourists who are used to wild life and beach life.
We expect it to be a booming week as many revelers will throng Mombasa for the event hence a big boost to our economy contribution.
Oktoberfest is the most famous contemporary food and beer festival in the world and has been sponsored for the first time in Africa by among others Paulaner beer, EAST African Breweries (EABL), DHL, all Germany business association members in conjunction with the German embassy in Kenya.
