Nandi County Governor Cleophas Lagat |
Nandi county leaders have enthusiastically lauded Governor Cleophas Lagat for
receiving the new Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP), with both hands in the
expansive region.
Led by Simion Murkelda Ngeny, the leaders described Lagat's move as wise and with the potential of bolstering unity in the county. Ngeny who is the interim JAP coordinator in the North Rift region, and the interim party chairman in Nandi county, told the press that he would hold a big meeting in Kapsabet town soon to chart the way forward over the new political outfit that was now quickly spreading its tentacles in the region. Ngeny who contested for the MCA post in Kilibwoni ward but lost to Mac George, has been in the forefront of initiating several community-based projects in the area. The official attacked a few individuals whom he said were going round dismissing the formation of the new party as he maintained that they were doomed to fail in their endevours. "Governor Lagat has done a very noble thing in supporting JAP. Initially, we thought Lagat would oppose the formation of the new party, being a friend of his Bomet counterpart Isaack Rutto who is fiercely opposed to JAP", stated Ngeny. The chairman blasted some businessmen in the Nandi county who were planning to hold a demonstration in the area on February 2nd aimed at impeaching Lagat. He asked tham to let the Governor complete his term. "I appeal to Nandi elders and opinion shapers to sit down and hammer out strategies of thrashing out contentious issues amicably to ward off the protest march against Lagat which is totally unnecessary", Ngeny pointed. At the same time, he urged Lagat to be joining other leaders like the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei whenever they visited the county to initiate development programmes. Ngeny took a swipe at some Governors and Senators allied to other parties like Kanu whom he said were badmouthing the Jubilee Alliance Party. "They should desist from unnecessary noise-making and instead join the JAP bandwagon as it is the right track to an ideal leadership", asserted Ngeny. He cautioned them against being misled to stray into other inconsequential political outfits. "Contrary to claims from some quarters, JAP is not a party that has been formed with the express purpose of consigning deputy president William Ruto into political Siberia. It is the party for development and the 2017 vehichle for President Kenyatta and Ruto to re-enter State House and continue serving Kenyans", argued Ngeny. He called on JAP national officials to make it possible for other counties across the country to have representatives as a first step towards strengthening the new outfit. "Massive recruitment of party members should start in earnest. I urge Nandi county residents to join the Jubilee Alliance Party enmasse without dilly dallying as it is the party of the moment", an assertive Ngeny concluded. Other leaders who accompanied Ngeny during the media briefing were: Cornelius Kurgat, Esther Yabei, Julius Mutai, Margaret Yego, Ernest Kogei, Susan Tarus, Sarah Mutai, Elias Too, Margaret Yego, Sabina Bett and Philip Magut. |
