JUBILEE PARTY MPs CONFRONT EACH OTHER WITH EXTORTION ACCUSATIONS FLYING AROUND OVER MAJORITY LEADERSHIP POSITION.

Kanini Kega's unequivocal assurance to Keynan was followed by a 'demand note' for facilitation fee to lobby MPs to push through 'the president's cause'

 Kieni MP Kanini Kega
A war of words has erupted between Kieni MP Kanini Kega and his Eldas counterpart Aden Keynan over the on-going reorganization of Jubilee Party leadership in the National Assembly.

Aden Keynan has accused Kanini Kega of dishonesty and conmanship after the latter approached him and gave him assurances that he would mobilize other Jubilee party MPs to dethrone Aden Duale as leader of the majority in the national assembly and replace him with Keynan.

Kanini is alleged to have assured Keynan that he had spoken to the President over the matter. The President who is also Jubilee Party leader is said to have backed the idea of removing Duale and equally endorsed Aden Keynan as his replacement, according to Kanini Kega's words to the Eldas legislator.

Kanini's unequivocal assurance to Keynan was followed by a 'demand note' for facilitation fee to lobby MPs to push through 'the president's cause' which the Eldas lawmaker obliged to. The coup was to be executed at State House during the PG meeting which the president was to host.

However, at State House, not a single MP raised the proposal to elevate Keynan to the position of majority leader, not even Kanini Kega himself, to the astonishment of the Eldas legislator. Following the PG, the President via State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena issued a formal statement that Duale would continue serving as the ruling party's leader in the National Assembly.
Aden Duale
Extortion allegations against Kanini were first raised by Duale himself after it emerged that Kanini had secured 115 signatures from MPs for the removal of Duale as leader of the majority in parliament, less than 24 hours after the president and the party had reconfirmed him to the position.

Reports that Keynan was about to dethrone Duale, who hails from the neighbouring County of Garissa was vehemently opposed by all MPs from Mandera County courtesy of clan Dynamics that have historically informed the direction of Politics amongst the ethnic Somali community in the region.

Wajir and Mandera counties are dominated by rival clans whose members don't see eye to eye on many issues. Wajir is dominated by Keynan's Degodia Clan while Mandera by the Garre, the two clans are said to maintain heavily armed rival groups.
Not ready to stir up the inter-clan conflict over the majority leader's position issue, the president is said to have opted for status quo. Keynan is said to be very bitter with Kanini Kega and is demanding a refund of his facilitation fee.

Kanini's collection of signatures from fellow MPs is seen by many as an attempt to justify the money he may have picked from his Eldas counterpart.
