Uhuru Kenyatta, Kalonzo Musyoka and William Ruto all attended the homecoming party at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.

Before the initial appearance of the Ocampo six at the International Criminal Court as suspects in the 2008 Post Election Violence, the chemistry between Member of parliament for Eldoret north William Ruto and his counterpart from Gatundu South Uhuru Kenyatta was as wide as that of Siamese Twins. In what was believed to be a concerted effort in fighting together in efforts to paint Prime Minister Raila Odinga negatively, the two together with VP Kalonzo Musyoka, joined forces in a show of might that was seen as a decisive strategy for the 2012 general election’s final outcome.
Out of this incestuous love affair, the KKK alliance was born. It easily mutated into G7 when it appeared that the KKK initials were exclusive. The PM and the generational change were the mantra.
Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa, a man who mutates faster that amoeba, you remember him moving from Simama Kenya, to forming a coalition with Mungiki’s Maina Njenga, then his dash from Ford Kenya, New Ford Kenya, KKK, and now G7, was thrown in the deep end by the powerful forces within KKK to provide the all needed ethnic balance. Other tired, but always-on- the -wrong -side -of - history politicians like Cyrus Jirongo, Musikari Kombo, Ali Chirau Mwakwere, Aden Dualle, were co-opted in through the lure of money to provide the much needed ethnic balance for the still born KKK to justify the new so called G7.Through rallies across the country, the KKK group did some serious campaigns in the last week towards the Hague trip. At one point, during the last of a series of the rallies in Gatundu, Mama Ngina Kenyatta was in attendance, and she blessed them wishing the duo well as they prepared to face the prospect of joint fate that awaited them at The Hague.
But the story is not about the duo and the ICC. Actually the story has everything to do with the aftermath of the group’s return, after their return from the Hague-based court.During one of their rallies in Nakuru, before the Hague trip, Najib Balala had declared the group would form a political party of the future.
It is not that the party Mr,Balala was proposing with so much gusto has never been formed, but the Mvita MP who is also the Tourism Minister has since bolted out of the camp. Kiema Kilonzo, the other loud mouthed fellow in the group, has too, gone silent, he rarely attends the group’s meetings and is known to talk ill of the VP accusing him for the underdevelopment in Ukambani. Igembe MP Linturi is prevaricating, blowing hold and cold. Raila, today and tomorrow it’s Ruto’s turn. This is hardly the image the group wants to project. Or is s it?
Simply put, nothing has been the same for the group ever since the six came back from The Hague.
First, it was that sickening; yet, shocking report that Uhuru Kenyatta had lost Ksh1 billion at Jomo Kenyatta Airport’s VIP lounge upon the group’s return. Off course, the story was vehemently denied by the deputy PM and the police. Indeed, the author of the story that appeared in the Standard had to endure some uncomfortable moments in the investigators room, before the matter died a natural death for lack of a complainant Trouble the police went through to prove the story wrong is what shocked many who had keenly followed the event unfold. Somehow, in order to assuage the ego of the political mafia, the police had to recover some bags and two cell-phones, not just to prove they were working, but to prove to all that no such amount of money was lost.
Conspiracy theorists even wondered aloud whether it was possible for a person to carry that kind of money in a small bag. If, they argued, 1 dollar bill is equal to 1 gram in weight, it then follows that 10,000 dollar bills equals 100Kgs and that no one in his right sense could carry that kind of money. That in fact it was too big a luggage carry around. Fair enough. There are other conspiracy theorists, who view this whole saga differently.
Those who have followed the entire saga, from the countdown to their Hague date, the return and its aftermath know that after that high profile rally at Uhuru Park, moments after their return, Ruto and Kenyatta were never to be seen together in public for at least two months. That is until they stole the thunder from Martha Karua and attended the home coming party of Bonny Khalwale, after his re-election as Ikolomani MP.It was Karua who campaigned for Khalwale. At that time Kenyatta was too busy and Ruto was very confused, while Eugene was praying hard that he emerges from the shadows as the kingpin of Luyia politics.
But significantly the two appeared together after Ruto had spent inordinate time at Kenyatta’s treasury office – four hours – on the same day he flew out to meet President Museveni and later President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania.Just what was discussed remains scanty. The media that reported the story didn’t go behind the scenes to establish what was discussed between the two. But we can tell you here and for free. Ruto pleaded that their parting of ways was beneficial to the common nemesis, the PM.
“It’s your right if you want to walk alone. But think of it. It is better if you hold on until an appropriate time. This is not the time. We shall both suffer irreparable damage and give this man (the PM) an undue advantage. Let us separate, but let’s do it gradually,” Ruto is reported as having told the DPM.
It was only then that Kenyatta decided to withhold his much anticipated walkout from the KKK, alias G7. Just four days after the group returned from the Hague, and after that showstopper at Uhuru park, Ruto hosted about 70 KKK MP's for a house warming party at his newly refurbished house in Karen. Significantly, Kenyatta did not show up. It was a wedding without a groom.
Not once or twice, Ruto has made some incursions into central and Meru regions to popularity the KKK team. He even was a prominent member of the team that campaigned for PNU in the Kirinyaga central by election. Long after the by election, Ruto went back for the new MPs homecoming. The underlying theme here is that neither Kenyatta nor his allies showed up.When he made a tour of Nyeri, Ruto was alone, and none of Kenyatta sidekicks, like Jeremia Kioni or Jamleck Kamau accompanied him.
All over a sudden the Kenyatta crowd has gone silent on Ruto in relation to 2012. The Kenyatta crowd has gone silent in singing odes for the Eldoret North MP. And as much as the Ruto crowd is loud enough in their praises, there is no replication in Central Province.
Every time he retreats to the Rift, there is no MP from central Kenya who accompanies him. Last week Ruto made forays into Kisii region and wooed Simeon Nyachae. And while the former minister responded positively, the forays were as loud for the absence of either the Kenyatta or Musyoka crowds.
Revealingly, during one of the interviews in the local press Kareke Mbiuki regretted that Ruto had decided to go it alone, they as PNU will soldier on.
As the two leading bloc of votes, the Kalenjins and Kikuyus are undoubtedly a powerful voting block, but years of mistrusts, suspicions and open hatred suggests that they may never sleep in the same bed again.
What happened? Is there something that happened upon the return of the group from Hague that Kenyans ought to know?Is there any relationship between these events and the purported loss of money at the airport? Why is there a growing rift between Kenyatta and Ruto, Kikuyu and Kalenjin?
