Homa Bay deputy governor Hamilton Orata Onyango is said to be scheming to take over as governor, The Weekly Vision online has been informed by people close to governor Cyprian Awiti, that their boss recently received very credible information in regard to his deputy’s activities. The DG was recently seen emerging from the offices of the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission in Kisumu where he had gone to report Mr. Awiti about financial malpractices said to be the order of the day at the county.  The DG has not been in good books with his boss who has since sidelined him from running of the county.

Reports of the existence of a murderous and corrupt cartel within the county executive is also said to have pushed the DG into reporting his boss to the authorities. It is believed that the DG would be a direct beneficiary in the event that his boss is arraigned in a court of law. The illegal activities are perpetuated by people close to Mr. Awiti, the DG is said to have told investigators.

There are people within the executive who are believed to have had a hand in the brutal murder of Mr. Donny Opar, County Executive Committee member nominee in charge of Roads and infrastructure. He was shot dead by three armed gunmen at his petrol station in Kendu Bay town. Mr. Opar had been approved by the County Assembly for the position in early April.

He was yet to take oath of office because Governor Cyprian Awiti who was to preside over the swearing-in ceremony had been away on medical grounds.
Homa Bay County assembly clerk, Bob Kephers Otieno is also in court, charged with a case of misappropriating Sh27.8 million in the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 financial years. He is out office until the conclusion of the case.
