The Kenya Bureau of Standards has suspended the sale of
Nuteez peanut butter for the second time this year. Also suspended are True
nuts, Fressy, Supa meal, Sue’s Naturals, Zesta and Nutty by Nature peanut
butter.
In January 2019, the Government Chemist warned consumers
against a product called Nuteez Peanut Butter whose afflation content exceeded
the allowable margin of 10 units by an additional 14.1 units and hence being
unfit for human consumption.
Consumer Federation of Kenya also came out at the time and
urged consumers to avoid the product, exercise extreme discretion if they must
use the Nuteez Peanut Butter as it could occasion serious health implication.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the standards regulatory body in Kenya,
later lifted an earlier ban on the sale of Nuteez Peanut Butter, produced by
Jetlak Foods Limited.
