HIGH-END FURNITURE MANUFACTURER FAILS TO DELIVER

“The challenge we have in the country is that the quality of furniture we produce is high yet people want to import products that don’t meet the standards,” Joseph Irungu, owner of Velmac Furniture Limited once told a newspaper editor. The question, is how will people trust you with their cash when you fail to deliver?

A high-end furniture manufacture which also boosts of a number of show rooms in Nairobi and Mombasa, Velmac Furniture has come under heavy criticism from one of their clients who had paid for furniture in July 2019 but has not received them to date. Businessman Mr. Simon Wainaina had put up a tourist class hotel, Safawa Lodge in Masaai Mara and picked Velmac as his furniture’s supplier of choice only to be disappointed when they spectacularly failed to deliver on time as the hotel was set for opening, breaching the agreement.

“The challenge we have in the country is that the quality of furniture we produce is high yet people want to import products that don’t meet the standards,” Joseph Irungu, owner of Velmac Furniture Limited once told a newspaper editor. The question, is how will people trust you with their cash when you fail to deliver?

There is a definite breach of contract involved here as the businessman had paid for beds, 2 seat sofa plus stool, two swinging chairs plus stool and an ironing board at a cost of Ksh.180, 000.00 all of which he deposited the  cash on the 12th July 2019, and receipt number 134 issued by Velmac bearing the same date.  By not delivering goods within a reasonable time as agreed, Velmac failed to fulfill its end of the bargain begging the question whether the firm is in the habit of receiving money from clients and failing to stick the agreed rules.

When you place an order for an item from a retailer, you're effectively creating a contract between the two of you, even if it isn't written down. If the company fails to do what it promised then you've got rights to take action against them. The Weekly Vision online sent out a questioner to one Rahab regarding the issue, she failed to respond.
