There were loud murmurs within Busia County immediately after the County Woman Representative's name was included on the list of special envoys from Western Kenya set to visit State House Nairobi, at a date that is yet to be announced. Florence Mutua's name was included on the list during a function held last Friday at COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli's home in Kajiado.
A senior politician from the County Hon. John Sakwa Bunyasi,
MP for Nambale constituency wondered how a coveted position like that one would
be entrusted to a “foreigner” adding that Busia is well endowed with many
professionals who are true daughters and sons of the County.
Hon. John Sakwa Bunyasi |
Bunyasi's sentiments were echoed by the larger population
from the County, both on the ground and social media platforms like Twitter and
Facebook, with most contributors vowing to back out of the Atwoli led Luhya
unity pact, terming it a waste of time and an insult to the people of Busia
County.
A respected opinion leader from the County, Mr Kamasasa Amos
Ephraim said on his official Facebook page that this time around nobody will
take the people of the county for granted, saying that most residents are tired
of leaders being imposed on them from elsewhere. He added that they are not
ready to go through any political and economic mediocrity again after 2022
elections.
Residents are now questioning Mutua's true marital status,
saying that her bonafide husband to whom they've had three grown-up kids is a native of Ukambani, thus disqualifying her constant claims of being a
daughter-in-law of Busia County.
Most residents support the Luhya unity pact but displayed
their discomfort with the list demanding that her name be expunged from the
final list.
