Moi Teaching and Referral hospital boss defended

Dr John Kibosia

A new leaf of affairs at the Eldoret Moi Teaching and Referral hospital broke to the surface at the weekend, after North Rift leaders, businessmen, churchmen, political activists and professionals strongly defended the Chief Executive Officer Dr John Kibosia against accusations leveled by a group of individuals in Nakuru recently to the effect that he should be removed from the hospital's helmsman ship for allegedly failing in his duties.

Addressing the press, the group led by Charles Tarbei and K. Bunei described the conduct of the group as unethical.

They also attacked detractors who had infiltrated workers unions to sabotage Dr Kibosia's management saying they were doomed to fail in their endeavors.

Tarbei and Bunei stated that enemies who have been holding night meetings to bring Dr Kibosia down had nothing tangible to offer.

They said workers unions should not be misused for destructive motives aimed at causing unnecessary confusion and propaganda.

They blasted a former CEO of the hospital for being behind the anti-Kibosia campaign and advised him to stick to his job.

Tarbei and Bunei said local residents were satisfied by Dr Kibosia's leadership of the health institution which, they argued, had undergone impressive and modern reforms ever since he took over from Prof Haroun Mengich.

They were reacting to a media report quoting a group of Kalenjin leaders opposed to Dr Kibosia's leadership style, and who held a secret and private meeting at a Nakuru hotel, to hammer out strategies of replacing Dr Kibosia with an executive of their choice.

According to the report, the group of detractors who met in Nakuru town, and whom sources said enjoy the patronage of some influential operatives, seriously discussed ways of planting a CEO of their choice at the pinnacle of the hospitals management by edging out Dr Kibosia from the top leadership.

But in a strong rejoinder, the pro-Kibosia men accused the Nakuru group of being led by selfish interests and working to destroy the confidence the local people had in Dr Kibosia's sound management of the hospital.

Tarbei and Bunei who spoke on behalf of the pro-Kibosia group during the media briefing, enumerated several projects which, they noted, had been implemented under the able guidance of Dr Kibosia.

They cited a Cancer Center which had already been established, a Chronic Disease Center, an ultra-modern psychiatric center, expansion of the Cholera and Natural ward, Alcohol and Drug abuse rehabilitation Center, among other impressive projects.

And besides, Tarbei and Bunei said that Dr Kibosia was sacrificing his sleep to oversee treatment of patients in the dead of the night and staying awake up to 3 or 4 am, which was very rare.

"Detractors should keep away from the hospital as we do not want the health facility to be politicized by a Machiavellian bunch of individuals bent on wrecking the hospital to the detriment of thousands of people whom it has been serving", argued the duo.

"We heavily censure the group which met in Nakuru town and other selfish saboteurs planning ways of dislodging Dr Kibosia", Tarbei and Bunei maintained.

"Let them witness the rapid development which has been taking place at the hospital for the short period Dr Kibosia has been at the helm instead of politicking unnecessarily and peddling lies for no apparent reason", they added.

They charged that the Nakuru group was merely out to besmirch Dr Kibosia's image as there was high staff morale at the hospital.

Tarbei and Bunei contended that it was the prerogative of the President to hire and fire at the guidance of the Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia but not a wayward group of people merely scheming to have one of their own at the top.

"We advise them to see reason and desist from destructive and divisive propaganda for the sake of the numerous patients who are enjoying the services of the Eldoret Moi Teaching and Referral hospital", Tarbei and Bunei averred.
Staff of the health institution that included doctors, nurses and casuals was also highly commended by the leaders for doing a splendid job and for adequately responding to patient’s needs.

The leaders noted that the hospital’s management had worked diligently to expand and modernize the health institutions and fit it with state-of the-art medical equipment.

They emphasized that the Eldoret Moi Teaching and Referral hospital had ensured extreme care for the sick, comfort and attention as they highly commended the hospitals staff for working towards the realization of these objectives.
