HOW NYAMIRA LEGISLATORS STOLE FROM HORRIFIC NAROK ACCIDENT VICTIMS

Narok Bus accident
 By  Major Makori (In Kisii)

A group of lawmakers from Gusiiland are on the spot after money given by the office of the President to facilitate the funeral and help bereaved families, victims of the recent Narok Bus accident got diverted with fears of embezzlement.
Apart from some Sh.1million personal donation by President Uhuru Kenyatta which was delivered, an additional Sh.1.5 million given to the group of legislators by Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi at Harambee House on Thursday morning is not properly accounted for by the legislators who attended the mass funeral at Nyamira playgrounds on Thursday.
The MPs at the centre of the storm who picked the money but misappropriated includes: Nyamira Women Representative Ms Jerusha Momanyi, Joash Nyamoko, Ben Momanyi, Peter Kemosi, and Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni. The funeral was also graced by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, area MCAs and the cabinet. One notable absentee was Kitutu-Masaba MP Shadrack Mose.

Governors Ongwae and Nyangarama of Kisii and Nyamira.

Sources in the know have divulged that the Legislators spent the larger part of the OP donation to hire a luxury Chopper which ferried them to the funeral from Nairobi instead of paying for the chopper from their pockets. They landed at the mass funeral like celebrities and mesmerized grieving residents.
The shocker for those in attendance was when it came to giving “Erongori” donations to help families bury their departed ones. The legislators gave a measly donation amounting to about Sh10, 000 from each one of them which has made many conclude that another chunk of the major donation from Minister Dr Matiangi and the Office of the President was shared amongst the MPs for selfish, personal use. Locals were heard lamenting loudly how elected leaders had shamelessly stolen from the dead and the grieving.
Governor Nyagarama who acted as mourner in Chief donated Sh 100,000 from his government, while Kisii County Government led by Governor James Ongwae donated another Sh.100, 000. The ODM national Treasurer donated Sh40, 000.
The tragic bus accident which occurred after Narok town a fortnight ago killed scores of passengers mainly from Nyamira, Migori and Homa Bay counties.  It had veered off the highway after the driver tried to avoid a head on collision with a construction lorry which was speeding on the wrong side of the road. The latest incident has upped concerns about many new legislators from the region who have converted themselves into mere fortune seekers and abandoned the core mandates they were elected to undertake on behalf of voters, including representation, oversight and legislation. Locals have openly dismissed them as unequal as compared to earlier legislators from the region who made a name for themselves for selflessness in service of residents and the country.
