FRANCIS ATWOLI MUST LEAVE COTU/SOLIDARITY BUILDING NOW

Sources within the civil society who have been championing for workers rights, have vowed to disrupt Atwolis comedy on Labor Day which should otherwise be a day of serious reflection on matters labor.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli

Kenyans are up in arms against the continued theatrics of COTU secretary General Francis Atwoli and have called for his resignation ahead of Labor Day on May 1st 2018.
According to several affiliate Unions the admiration of the octogenarian flamboyant big mouth has come to an end as he has achieved little in the advancement of staff welfare in the country.
The statement comes as a defiant Atwoli seems not to be reading the signs of time as he prepares for a fabulous party with his cronies going ahead to invite Congolese musician Nyaboma Mwandindo in the country last Saturday to purportedly entertain a hungry and an angry worker at this year’s Labor day celebrations at Uhuru park. Sources within the civil society who have been championing for workers rights, have vowed to disrupt Atwolis comedy on Labor Day which should otherwise be a day of serious reflection on matters labor.
It is a day workers should also reflect on the jailing of former COTU treasurer Cornel Ogutu and programs coordinator Millicent Ngeso for stealing 115.5 Million on January 30th this year. It is worth to know that Francis Atwoli testified against his former comrades. What a betrayal?
Serious issues that need our refection are the plight of workers in the agricultural and floriculture sector who are living in pathetic slave like conditions. Francis Atwoli is their secretary general through his moribund Kenya plantation and allied workers union.
A recent report commissioned by the Kenya National Commission on human Rights Titled “WILT IN GLOOM” highlight breathtaking conditions our workers go through yet one Francis Atwoli is obsessed with dancing those Congolese dirges.
A sneak preview provides salaries as follows
-Unskilled employees (who are the majority) - earns Ksh. 10,000/=
-Stock man, herdsman, watchman                - earns Ksh.  11,595/=
-House servant or cook                                - earns Ksh 18,000/=
-Flower cutter /foreman /clerk/gardener                            - earns Ksh.18, 000/=
Farm artisan                                                  - earns Ksh 12,727/=
Combined harvester driver                  - earns Ksh. 14,000/=
Lorry Driver or Car driver                  - earns Ksh 14,710/=
These are perhaps what Atwoli spends in a minute. How are workers supposed to be entertained by these misadvised Congolese musicians? The musician should be advised to take a first flight back home. As if these sufferings are not enough female employees are subjected to pre pregnancy test before contracts are signed and unpaid maternity leave.Within Atwoli’s own house, Kenya Plantation Allied Workers Union, reports paints a very grim picture. They are cited to have limited human right capacity, undemocratic and poor governance structure, lack training for shop stewards, lack accountability and collect dues from workers through illegal means. Yet he wants people to join him dance Nyboma Mwadindo. No more Mr Atwoli.
