Cases of public service employees holding fake academic papers has been on the rise in Kenya for a while now. A few years ago the Kenyan judiciary commissioned a company to carry out an audit on the authenticity of its employees’ academic papers. Sources within the Judiciary said at the time that the auditor took issue with academic certificates of at least 500 employees.

Today an MCA for Kiamanga Ward within Kiambu Robert Kibe Githongo will be presented before the Milimani Anti-Corruption court to answer to a number of charges.

The MCA was arrested by EACC officials for allegedly presenting them with forged academic certificates.
Githongo will be charged with four counts including provision of false information, making a false document, uttering a false document and making a false declaration.

The Anti-corruption commission opened investigations into allegations that the suspect had forged academic certificates which were used to enroll into Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Githongo allegedly forged his KCSE certificate in order to be enrolled for a diploma in a leadership programme in JKUAT.
