There was a great
uproar in Busia County after pictures of a woman with her little kid in a
deplorable quarantine facility circulated on social media. The woman was
arrested on Thursday at her place of work at Nambale shopping centre for
allegedly disregarding the Covid-19 directives on sanitation after she failed
to provide sanitisers to her customers, she roasts and sells maize at the
centre.
Enraged locals, turned their anger to the County
government, accusing county administrators of exposing the woman and her little
kid to some other deadly diseases like pneumonia. However, County government
officials absolved themselves from blame saying that they also learnt of the
unfortunate story on social media.
According to the Busia County government's online
page, all their quarantine facilities are in good condition and well maintained
adding that they cannot allow to be blamed for what is in not under their
control saying that how the police choose to punish those breaking the Covid-19
directives is not one of their mandate. The woman was later released and
escorted home by a police van.
