TRANS NZOIA COUNTY SPEAKER DISMISSES TIFA OPINION POLL WHICH INDICATES HE’S TRAILING IN POPULARITY RATINGS

Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Mutoto Werunga.

Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Mutoto Werunga has dismissed a recently released opinion poll that was conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) indicating that he was behind former Senator Henry Ndiema in rating.

The TIFA results, he said, were doctored to serve the interests of contestants who are unable to match his actual high rating. "Results released by TIFA were doctored to portray newcomer Allan Chesang and former Senator Henry Tiole Ndiema as front runners when they are not ", he said. The results showed the Speaker trailing both Chesang and Ndiema. Speaker Werunga spoke to The Weekly Visionin an interview last Wednesday in Chebarus. He said he was confident of clinching the seat with a landslide.

I'm not naive to what has been happening behind the curtains. I have the requisite numbers to enable me to romp home early", he said. Mr Werunga said that he was the only capable person able to defend the County from political and economic aggression from a neighbouring county.

He asked Trans Nzoia residents not to be swayed by anyone pushing for a candidate fronted by the Bungoma County Senator and his Ford Kenya Party, which he accused of impoverishing the people of Trans Nzoia. He described the opinion polls as stage-managed by one of his opponents in the senatorial race, as a scam.

“The candidate in question is riding on false hopes and building on quicksand. He is a fraudster out to con our people ", he said. Mr Werunga is enjoying the support base of the Democratic Action Party Of Kenya allied to Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

He first vied for the Endebess Constituency seat against incumbent MP Robert Pukose before moving to the neighbouring Kwanza constituency where he came second to incumbent Ferdinand Wanyonyi. He was elected Speaker of Trans Nzoia County Assembly in 2017.

He is battling for the Senate seat alongside Musoke Muliro of the Orange Democratic Movement, an affiliate Party in the Azimio One Kenya Coalition. Mr Werunga said those underrating his candidature will be in for a rude shock as the residents of Trans Nzoia will finally make a decision to liberate themselves on August 9th.
