Rowdy youths allegedly supporting Sirisia MP John Waluke attacked his opponent’s car that had been parked at the opponent’s gate after campaigning around the constituency. The damaged vehicle belongs to Moses Waliaula, the Independent candidate who seeks to oust Mr Waluke as the MP in the forthcoming polls.
In an interview with The Weekly Vision on Monday, Mr Waliaula faulted MP Waluke for harassing, threatening and intimidating others, who claimed that as the sitting MP, nobody should campaign against him. Mr Waliaula added that he has no bad blood against Mr Waluke saying that campaigning is a democratic right of every aspirant, cleared by the IEBC to vie for elective seats in the general elections. Mr Waliaula said that he is running a peaceful campaign.
Mr Waliaula, who is an Independent candidate, told the media that he had parked his vehicle outside the gate after it ran out of fuel. “I had not quarrelled with Mr Waluke. My vehicle was parked outside the gate. I had gone to rest, I had intented to send someone to buy fuel so that I could move it into the compound,” he said.
He said that during the time of the attack the area MP was moving past his home to address a group of his supporters that had been waiting for him at Toloso market but when he (Waluke) saw my car he instructed the rowdy youths to attack it. However, He added that the MP has been heard many times accusing, sometimes beating up and threatening residents in Sirisia. We have reported complaints to the Sirisia police station but no action has been taken against him.
“I am not the only one that Mr Waluke and his team have attacked; even the Ford Kenya aspirant was attacked. The case was reported at the police desk but nobody has ever taken it seriously,” Waliaula said. He called on the Inspector general, the IEBC, DPP and the DCI to intervene and investigate Mr Waluke.
On his part, Philip Wekesa, a human activist said that Waluke is defying the election law saying that stern action should be taken against him. “Candidates who defy election rules and regulations should be investigated as all aspirants must stick to the law, we want peaceful elections,” Wekesa added.
