The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Nordin Haji
has revealed that senior Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers face arrest in
the ongoing purge against tax evasion.
The arrests could net the immediate
former Commissioner General Mr. John Njiraini and other commissioners at KRA,
for failing to collect taxes from Keroche Breweries Ltd.The brewery owners are
in court for failing to remit billions of shillings to KRA in taxes.
The Weekly Vision online has established that one of
the main reasons why the owners of Keroche Breweries Limited are in trouble
with KRA and the DPP’s office is as a result of the huge bribes that they are
said to have offered to the Commissioners at KRA so as to go slow on tax
demands.
We have also established that KRA office that covers
Naivasha where Keroche Breweries Ltd are based had for many years tried to sort
out the issue with Keroche Breweries Ltd owners without much success, they have
always been dismissed as juniors, Tabitha Karanja preferred dealing with the
Commissioners in Nairobi, who in turn prevailed upon their juniors to go slow
on the investigations.
However with the replacement of Mr. Njiraini by James
Mburu as Commissioner General, things turned ugly for the bosses at the
Naivasha based brewer. The new man at Times Towers wants money and wants it
now.
