The Manda/Shivanga ward county assembly candidate David Kivishi has warned politicians against involving youth’s especially school-going children in their campaigns to cause mayhem.

He spoke in his ward after the area witnessed several incidences of violence unleashed by youngsters targeted at rival aspirants and their supporters.  Mr  Kivishi who is the main contender in the ward, called on the security apparatus to take action against such politicians noting that they were risking the lives of the youngsters who may end up hurting each other in the name of political supremacy.

I’m calling on the relevant security apparatus to take note that as the polling day nears, cases of violence involving young people may become rampant where a clique of politicians entices them with alcohol and drugs to disrupt and attack their opponents in the name of campaigning for their favourite candidates.

Mr Kivishi observed that it was important for politicians to sober up and do their campaigns professionally instead of paying young people, mostly males, to heckle and threaten their opponents.

He called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take note of the politicians who are fond of walking at night campaigning, saying it was a security threat and urged the electoral body to mark the culprits and bar them from contesting as it was against the law.

Elections will be held during the day. Why would one walk the whole night campaigning yet they could still do it during the day unless they have a sinister motive at hand.

He defended his idea to vie for the seat pointing out that education standards in the ward were at the lowest with teenage pregnancies escalating now and then leading to high levels of school dropout.

“Within Kakamega county, Manda/Shivanga ward has been listed as being on the frontline in early pregnancies and the school dropout rate is high, I want to go to the county assembly to change this by ensuring that education standards are improved and those early mothers are taken back to school.”

He also promised to improve the road network and put up bridges on rivers to assist school-going children to reach school with ease as many were forced to swim across the swollen rivers to school while those who cannot are forced to miss school during heavy rains.

Already I have been constructing bridges on several rivers and this has impacted well with society and hence urged me to vie for the county assembly position to fully represent them and bring the needed development closer to the people as the ward is the most populous within the sub-county.

He also said he will address the early delivery of canes to allow parents to get cash to pay fees for their children.

“Cane harvesting has been an issue due corruption in permit awarding which has hugely contributed to the high level of school dropouts as most of the parents, most of whom are cane harvesters who rely on it to  educate their children. These factories have engaged brokers who have made local cane harvesting tedious taking even 24 to 36 months from the initial 16/18 months and these are the issues that our people want to be addressed and they have their faith in me that I will deliver accordingly.
